🎨 Sublimation Printing On Skinny 20oz Tumblers – Everything You Need To Know

Why try this out?

Sublimation on tumblers is the ultimate blend of creativity and practicality. It lets you add a dash of YOU to your drinkware and watch heads turn as you sip your iced coffee. Who needs a plain and boring tumbler when you can create a masterpiece?

You deserve to sip in style. ☕

What tools will you need?

  1. Sublimation printer: Used to print the image or design you want to sublimate on your cotton shirt

  2. Heat press machine: A sublimated image or design needs to be transferred on the shirt, and it requires heat. Heat press machines are used to transfer the design to the substrate.

  3. Sublimation paper or sheet: Sublimation paper or sheet is used to get the design or image printed on.

  4. Heat-resisting tape: Heat-resisting tape is used to tape the sheet to the substrate while pressing it with a heat press.

  5. Butcher paper: To protect our backside and heat press from the sublimation ink, we use this butcher paper as a layer.

How does this work?

Get ready to create magic! 🎨✨

Step 1:

Prepare your design on the computer and heat up your convection oven or heat press.

Step 2:

Print your design on sublimation paper using a sublimation printer. Adjust the size to fit your tumbler .

Step 3:

Wrap the printed paper tightly around the blank tumbler and secure it with heat-resistant tape.

Step 4:

It's time to apply the heat! Pop the wrapped tumbler into the heat press for 60–90 seconds, or if you're using a convection oven, shrink-wrap it with a heat gun.

Step 5:

Watch the magic happen! Place the wrapped tumbler in the pre-heated oven for 3-5 minutes, and you'll see the design transfer onto the tumbler.

Step 6:

Let the tumbler cool down for a few minutes, then remove the shrink wrap and printed paper.

….

And voilà! 🌟🌈

Behold your stunning sublimated tumbler!

Potential issues:

The best surfaces for dye sublimation printing are those that have a polyester resin coating or are made of polyester. This includes both hard goods and fabrics, such as metal plates, snowboards, tiles, footballs, mugs, aluminum, hardboard, natural wood, and various plastics.

You’ll notice that we didn’t mention cotton. However, cotton fabrics can be printed on by applying a special polyester surface coating to them or by printing the image on a specially treated transfer paper.
